Baking Cookies

Before celebrating my Dad's 70th birthday, the ladies in the family enjoyed a day of baking holiday cookies together. My mom hosted and Aunt Barb along with my cousin Joey's girlfriend joined us. I wasn't sure if she'd want to pictured on the blog, so I blurred her face for privacy. We made three kinds of cookies and ER got to decorate some premade sugar cookies as well.
Mom did some prep work getting the dough ready ahead for the Holiday Cranberry-Orange Slices, those were just slice and bake on the day. We did mix up three batches of Paula Deen's White Chocolate Cherry Chunkies. ER loved helping use the mixer.Aunt Barb bought some premade frozen sugar cookies to keep ER occupied. While she iced with homemade frosting, Uncle Dave helped out by supervising the decorating.

Here are how our cookies turned out, delicious!Paula Deen's White Chocolate Cherry Chunkies, a perenial favorite of mine and now a tradition in our family.Holiday Cranberry-Orange Slices from December's edition of Midwest Living Magazine, a new favorite that I was surprised by. I don't usually like cranberries but these are so fresh and bright tasting with the orange in them.
Three Ingredient Peanut Butter Cookies, four if you count the Hersey Kiss we added on top. These were Joey's girlfriend's recipe and while she mixed up the first batch my mom and Aunt Barb couldn't quite believe they were going to turn out. They kept repeating the ingredient list over and over. When they came out of the oven, they tasted them and with a sound of surprise, declared they tasted just like cookies, LOL! They kinda were doubting that they'd turn out without the flour but they are very rich and peanut buttery, just as you'd want them to be!

It was the first time we've gotten together and baked for the holidays, but it was a lot of fun and I hope we do it again next year! How do you prepare for the holidays? Any special recipes your family loves? Do share!

  6. Heehee! I thought my family was the only one that made three ingredient peanut butter cookies! It's the only peanut butter cookie recipe I've ever used b/c it's the best - but it does seem like it wouldn't work :-)
It looks as if you had a very fun day - holiday baking is so fun!
