First Born Survey - From Facebook

Happy Mother's Day!
I found this survey on Anna's blog, it's pretty interesting and fun. I've seen a few of these surveys go around but never one so focused on motherhood. I thought since most of my blogging community are mommies, this one would be fun to share and it's rather appropriate for today, being that it's Mother's Day here in the US.

1. WAS YOUR FIRST PREGNANCY PLANNED? Strategically planned is a better way to put it! That was Anna's answer and it applies to me too. We'd waited until Brad had finally finished graduate school before planning our family. I wanted to be a SAHM and the only way that was possible was if he was no longer a student and was bringin' home the bacon ☺

2. WERE YOU MARRIED AT THE TIME? Oh yes, and by that time one of my parents' friends at church, who's a good Catholic having contributed eight children to the population, was asking, "What's the hold up, are they just good friends?" LOL

3. WHAT WERE YOUR REACTIONS? Holy cow that worked ALREADY? Anna's response and in a way could also apply to our situation. We got pregnant the first month we were officially trying.

4. WAS ABORTION AN OPTION FOR YOU? Absolutely not, not then, not ever.

5. HOW OLD WERE YOU? 28 at the start, 29 at birth

6. HOW DID YOU FIND OUT YOU WERE PREGNANT? Home pregnancy test, it showed positive immediately. But Brad kept staring at the stick with a slightly scared look, I was like um it's positive. He goes, "It says to wait two minutes," I replied, "I don't think it's going to change to negative!" He was shocked cause we got preggers the first month of trying so right out of the gate.

7. WHO DID YOU TELL FIRST? My Dad, I called to tell my mom but she was out. I'd alluded to the fact we might be pregnant the day before and thought she would have mentioned it to my Dad. She hadn't because she didn't want to say anything til we were sure. So he was pretty surprised. I made decoupaged frames for my extended family for Christmas that year and made an insert that said We're Having a Baby that I put in where the picture goes, as our way to tell them. I thought that was a neat way to share our news.

8. DID YOU WANT TO FIND OUT THE SEX?YES!!! I wanted to know the first second it was possible!

9. DUE DATE? August 10, 2006 although we had her early but officially full term at 37 weeks

10. DID YOU HAVE MORNING SICKNESS? No but I had enough other issues that I'd rather have had morning sickness and none of the other stuff to deal with.

11. WHAT DID YOU CRAVE? Chinese food from the place I grew up getting take out from, which was a huge problem as it was in MI and we lived in NM.

12. WHO/WHAT IRRITATED YOU THE MOST? Testing my blood sugar levels six to ten times a day.

13. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CHILD'S SEX? Female

14. DID YOU WISH YOU HAD THE OPPOSITE SEX OF WHAT YOU WERE GETTING? No

15. HOW MANY POUNDS DID YOU GAIN THROUGHOUT THE PREGNANCY? Twenty-five, the exact amount the doctor wanted me to.

16. DID YOU HAVE A BABY SHOWER? Yes my coworkers at the school I taught at were sweet enough to throw one for me. We had a Meet the Baby party with Brad's coworkers when she was a month old, since the original baby shower was planned right when I went on bed rest. I also had two more Meet the Baby parties the December after she was born when the baby and I stayed in MI with my parents from Thanksgiving through to the New Year.

17. WAS IT A SURPRISE OR DID YOU KNOW? I knew about all of them, but they were planned by friends and family.

18. DID YOU HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS DURING YOUR PREGNANCY? I had high blood pressure, was on medication and seven weeks of bedrest. Also as a diabetic, I had a whole laundry list of issues and concerns. I was hospitalized over the weekend at 35 weeks but managed to hold on to 37.

19. WHERE DID YOU GIVE BIRTH? St. Vincent's Hospital

20. HOW MANY HOURS WERE YOU IN LABOR? None, planned C-section due to increasing blood pressure but mainly because she was breach.

21. WHO DROVE YOU TO THE HOSPITAL? Brad and my mom, who was staying with us while I was on bedrest and for a month after she was born.

22. WHO WATCHED YOU GIVE BIRTH? A whole cast of characters and Brad were in the operating room

23. WAS IT NATURAL OR C-SECTION? C-section

24. DID YOU TAKE MEDICINE TO EASE THE PAIN? Hmm...meds to easy the pain while in labor? Well no labor so no meds, but I did need a little something something to calm me down during the prep for the C-section

27. HOW MUCH DID YOUR CHILD WEIGH? 6 pound 6 ounces

28. WHEN WAS YOUR CHILD ACTUALLY BORN? 8:48 AM

30. WHAT DID YOU NAME HER? I picked out her name when I was still a little girl, she's named after a character from one of my favorite books. Her middle name is a family name, it's part of my mom's name, one of my great aunt's names, and is my great grandmother's name. But really she got it because I liked the way it sounded.

31. HOW OLD IS YOUR FIRST BORN TODAY? On her way to three years old in July, how time flies!
