Summer Day Camp Project #4: Thumbprint Pendants
It's the first day of August and along with the new month comes a new craft from the Summer Day Camp series! This time the featured project comes right from me, so no need to blog hop to find the how-to!
I'm excited to share a fun and easy way for kids to create wearable art, with their very own thumbprint pendant! Gather your supplies:
Crayola Model Magic
Non-Toxic Ink, in a color of your choice
Fine Tip Permanent Ink Pen
Skewer, Pencil, or Pen to create hole for hanging
Ribbon
Pull off a small clump of Crayola Model Magic, a little larger than dice sized is a good size to start with. Use a little ink to color the modeling compound. We turned our pink by stamping on it several times with a mini pad and then mixing in the color by kneading it like dough. Add ink and mix in until you like the intensity of the color.
Roll your modeling compound into a circle and gently flatten to make a round pendant shape. The diameter should be around one inch and big enough to fit a thumbprint. Thickness should be around a little less than a quarter inch. Make a hole for hanging.
Ink up your thumb and press into the pendant. Let it harden and dry overnight on wax paper. Use a thin line permanent marker to turn your thumbprint into your favorite animal. We found ideas of thumbprint art, here and in books by Ed Emberley. Gently brush on a layer of clear nail polish to seal your drawing.
After it dries add a string and wear your art! These little thumbprint drawings are so precious, little crafters might want to create one for their Mom too. It's a sweet little keepsake, just write your child's name and date on the back. I hope you liked our installment of the Summer Day Camp! Thank you to Alanna at The Craft Nest for inviting us to participate. To see all of the projects, click here.

Summer Day Camp Project #3: Friendship Pins with The Craft Nest
The next kid's craft project is up and it's a classic; one I remember fondly from my own childhood.
Learn how to make friendship pins like these at The Craft Nest with Alanna! I remember pinning a bunch of these to my school backpack and swapping them with my friends, fun! To see all of the Summer Day Camp Projects, click here.

Summer Day Camp Project #2 Featuring Ninth Street Notions
Hi Everyone! I hope you've got a wonderful weekend planned. We are extra busy because it's ER's sixth birthday on Saturday! Before I head off to her birthday party at the pool with her little friends, I wanted to pop in and share the second project for the Summer Day Camp Alanna from The Craft Nest is coordinating.
It's a great one from Amanda at Ninth Street Notions. Her Found Object Mobile is the perfect thing to use up all the bits and pieces you kids find, and that normally end up in their pockets.
Enjoy! See all the Summer Camp Projects, here.

Summer Day Camp, Online with The Craft Nest and Yours Truly!
Now that we're well into July, perhaps a little summer boredom is beginning to set in with the kiddos? I've got the perfect solution! It's time for an online Summer Day Camp featuring fun projects and crafts for the kids and hosted by Alanna from The Craft Nest.
Here are the projects so far and I'll be adding to this post as more are added each week so you'll be able to find them all here in one handy reference. Plus I'll be sharing the projects each week. I can't wait to see what our four instructors have in store for us. We'd love for you to join each week and let us know if you do any of the craft projects!

The first post is already up and it's fantastic! My daughter likes Alanna's Hula Hoop Hide Out so much she's already asking me that when she gets her new bed, will I make one so she can have a canopy all the time. Click the link for the tutorial!
