Raindrop Plop Watercolor Crayon Resist Art Project

Has it been raining where you are? Yesterday it came down in buckets and unfortuately for us, we had errand to run. We were out in the rain but ER didn't mind one bit. She absolutely LOVES to carry her umbrella and get all dressed up in her boots and matching rain coat. She lives for rainy days.

Walking through the parking lot, I looked back and could barely see her, the umbrella was so big. It was all umbrella and boots. Instantly, I thought of the the book Raindrop Plop! and was inspired to make our own crayon resist watercolor version of the cover.First a little bit about the book, via product description:

One little raindrop,
dark, dark sky.
Two little raindrops,
clouds go by...

How many ways can you have fun on a rainy day? From one little raindrop to ten toes soaking in a warm bubble bath, there are lots of things to see and count until the sun comes out again. In between, there are silly boots to pull on and puddles to splash in and a rainy backyard just waiting to be explored. A spirited rhyming text that’s ideal for reading aloud and cheerful illustrations capture the unexpected pleasures that a little wet weather can bring to a young child’s day.

Here are the steps to create our project:Use a green crayon to draw the horizon on a piece of paper. Scribble in grass but don't color in bottom portion complete. Scribble with blue crayon on the top for the sky.
Watercolor with the cooresponding colors both potions of the paper.
Draw an umbrella, skirt, and boots. Just simple line drawings. Cut out and paint in with watercolors.
Glue as shown above. Attach poem with the first half of book's text in empty space. For the complete text, click here.

Come Join Me on BlogFrog & Exciting News

I first joined BlogFrog when I noticed it on my friend Tara's blog, but I didn't really do too much with it until a couple of days ago. Laurie at Tip Junkie decided to move her NING group, which I belong too, over to BlogFrog and it was the push I needed to revisit it. This short video, really helped explain how to use it. They recently launched a new look with new features and since I've been using it again I've really liked what I see. It's a great way to connect with other bloggers and the interactive forums are a big part of the draw, for me. I've been finding a lot of familiar faces on there and have joined several communities myself. When you join up, you'll end up with a profile page a lot like mine above.

Here's a little bit more about BlogFrog, according to their FAQ, it does 3 main things:
  1. Provides fun, social widgets for your blog (example: you can see when your friends visit) Check them out on my left side bar.
  2. Fun ways to find new blogs (example: by High School, or by what blogs link to you)
  3. Lets you host or participate in a blog community, where all the readers of a blog can interact with each other. That's my community page below.
You can access my burgeoning BlogFrog Community via the widget on my side bar, it will take you to my discussion forum where you can interact with me and other readers, ask each other questions, share blog content, etc. To participate and to have your blog content show up in my forum, all you have to do is join my community. Another thing I really like about BlogFrog is that you don't have to have a blog to sign up and use it.

So what are you waiting for? Go sign up for BlogFrog and make sure you become a member of my community while you're at it. I'm just getting started and don't have a lot of friends yet, so please join in on the conversation. I'll keep on talking to myself, but it's a lot more fun if you're all there too. It's free, there is a premium membership as well, and only takes a couple of minutes to join.

Plus here's my super exciting news!!!

Eek I am so excited I can't stand it! I am going to be one of the Community Leaders for Today's Creative Blog's Community. That's one of my favorite blogs, EVER so being involved with Kim and Today's Creative Blog in any way is a pretty big deal for me☺ I'll be regularly posting on that forum's discussions and replying to others on that community as well as on my own. I hope to really get to know other bloggers with similar interests; I'll be focusing on scrapbooking and papercrafting, my particular obsessions. I am very excited AND Kim was even sweet enough to upgrade my membership to Premium status. Whoot!

Not only am have I joined with my personal blog but my other blog, ABC & 123: A Learning Cooperative is also now on BlogFrog. Please join me on both communities at on Today's Creative Blog's too. Let me know if you are on there, so I can follow you too!

Easter Weekend

I hope everyone's Easter weekend went as planned, we actually managed to get to everything on our list. Starting with the Bunnyville event at our zoo, which was super crowded - a lot more than last year. But once we actually got parked and through the enormous line just to get in, things went smoothly. We met up with our good friends and ER got to spend some time in the game area with Margaret's girls.I am biased, of course, but I think ER was the cutest little thing walking around with her two little piggy tails. It's a new "do" for us and so exciting for Mommy! On our way out of the zoo, we heard an announcement letting visitors know that a big storm was predicted in 30 minutes. Whew, finished just in the nick of time, we watched the rain drops fall from inside the restaurant at a late lunch. It was on to my parents' house afterward. ER was pretty excited to spend the night at Grammy's and Papa's house. She thinks it super special to spend the night in the tent my cousin Mary Beth sent her. With her sleeping bag and lots of blankets, she's as snug as a bug. The next morning it was up for an early mass at eight. Isn't ER's Easter outfit just darling? I know biased again, but I just love how it all came together. This is one of my favorite photos, ER with the little bunny on my parents' porch. These are after church photos, ER was really good, a whole lot better than expected. Maybe it was because she was half asleep for most of it. Normally she isn't even up until nine-thirty. It was an doubly special mass because my parents were recognized for their 35th wedding anniversary, which was yesterday. As usual the Easter Bunny was especially nice to ER, leaving a lots of candy and treat filled eggs. He also brought the one thing she was hoping for, a ballerina bunny. We all went over to my Godparents' house for Easter brunch, which was delicious! French toast casserole, baked eggs, fruit salad, breads, ham...I was stuffed and then there was cheesecake! Plus another egg hunt, but the best part was seeing my Godbrother Mike and his wife Jessica, who we've not seen for way too long. The day ended with egg hunt number three at Grandma Norma's. It was a beautiful day, nice and sunny, much better than predicted and finally warm enough for ER to hunt outdoors. Not all the treats came inside of eggs or baskets though. Grandma Norma helped ER made vanilla ice cream for the first time. It was colored a lovely shade of blue that just happened to match her shirt. How fun.
After a big Easter dinner we finally made it home. We were all rather exhausted and everyone was in bed by nine-thirty. Which if you know anything about us, you know that's shockingly early.
