Children's Book Review and Giveaway: Babysitting Sugarpaw

Giveaway now closed. Congratulations to alwayshopeful, comment 16 who said, HAVE TO GO WITH BILLY'S FAV PART,PUZZLES! thank you, this is a nice prize package,,

Today I am thrilled to be introducing you to an exciting children's author, VS Grenier and her first picture book Babysitting SugarPaw, because as a former kindergarten and special education teacher I know the importance of reading to your child every day. I love to share new authors with you, and I even have a signed copy of Babysitting SugarPaw to give away!Babysitting SugarPaw has already become a treasured addition to our library. I find myself reading it to ER every day, more than once. It is an especially timely addition to our household, because ER is going through something similar. While not with a babysitter, she is off to preschool for the first time and having to adapt to being with someone other than Mommy or Daddy.

Brief Story Synopsis:
SugarPaw is being left with a new babysitter. He is quite a handful for Bonnie Whiskers and trys to pull a fast one on her by changing the rules left by his parents. But SugarPaw finds out that no matter what he does Bonnie Whiskers is there for him. By the end of the narrative, he's figured out that not only is his babysitter a kind and caring one. She's the best babysitter he could have!

My Thoughts:
I always think the best way to talk to children about a new and unfamiliar topic is through a book connection. This would be a great book to begin reading shortly before having a babysitter over for the first time. It can be used as a vehicle for discussion with your child, about how Mommy and Daddy always come back and would never leave them with anyone they didn't trust.

It's an especially good book for children because it deals with a situation that can be scary for young ones. A short story with colorful pictures, it's audience will love hearing about all the mischeif SugarPaw gets into and relate to how he feels. It also teaches empathy, as SugarPaw feels remorse for how he's acted.

Tell a babysitting story my sister had about 15 years ago!She babysat for a friend. It was her and 3 kids that night and it was about 10.00 when she got them all to sleep.Since she was spending the night she just laid down across the foot of the oldest kids bed and fell asleep. She was awakened by footsteps. She raised up expecting to see the mom and dad walk by and all she saw was a shadowed person with a trench coat on that dissapeared in front of her!!!!
She sat on the bed with lights on till they arrived a little later. They told her it was nothing to worry about ,they had already saw it several times.Needless to say that was one of her last babysetting episodes! true story....
