Since it's debut, Jake and the Never Land Pirates has become one of my five year old daughter's favorite shows. She loves the music and what kid wouldn't love the fanciful premise of outwitting Captain Hook and Smee all on a tropical paradise? Jake, Izzy, and Cubby all exhibit a positive can do attitude; presenting good role models and problem solving skills to their fans.
Captain Hook is suitably adapted for a preschool audience; even my daughter who frightens easily finds him more comical than scary. The only thing I find a little lacking is an educational component, although the kids earn coins which are counted up at the end, most of the questions posed to viewers are to identify things. I think of this show as a fun break to our day.
The Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Yo Ho, Matey's Away DVD makes available seven episodes of the popular Disney Junior series, each with two cartoons and provides over two hours of entertainment. Each epsidoe also features a live action video featuring The Never Land Pirate Band. Viewers will also get a glimpse of animated versions of Sharky and Bones, whenever they pop up as extra members of Captain Hook's band of pirates. Their catchy tongue in cheek ditties are the highlight of each show, "Aw Coconuts" is one of my personal favorites. Aslo included is 7-track bonus CD sampler and a pirate eye patch for the suggested retail price of $19.99.
More music from The Never Land Pirate Band is available on the Jack and the Never Land Pirates Soundtrack, also now available. Here is a preview clip from the DVD:
