Review & Giveaway: Sarah McLachlan, Laws of Illusion

Finally, something new from Sarah McLachlan! Seven years is just too long between studio releases. Laws of Illusions, hit the stores last week on the fifteenth and fans will not be disappointed. The collection of twelve songs capture McLachlan's haunting vocals and beautiful prose perfectly.

Hearing an artist that doesn't need to rely on overpowering music or digital alterations to make her sound good was so refreshing. It very much felt like McLachlan might have shown up at your local coffeehouse and performed, just for you. I love that McLachlan feels very much like an indie act, who just happens to had over 20 million career sales. She is definitely one of my favorite artists of all time.
TRACK LISTING

1. AWAKENINGS
2. ILLUSIONS OF BLISS
3. LOVING YOU IS EASY
4. CHANGES
5. FORGIVENESS
6. RIVERS OF LOVE
7. LOVE COME
8. OUT OF TUNE
9. HEARTBREAK
10. DON’T GIVE UP ON US
11. U WANT ME 2
12. BRING ON THE WONDER

The first single is "LOVING YOU IS EASY", and ready made to garner McLachlan new fans and be a mainstream radio hit. More upbeat, tt felt a little disjointed from the rest of the album, which takes on a slower vibe. It's definitely a stand out track along with "AWAKENINGS" and "ILLUSIONS OF BLISS". You can download "LOVING YOU IS EASY" for purchase through Amazon and iTunes.
This summer marks the return of the historic all-female Lilith Fair festival! From 1997 through 1999, Lilith Fair was one of the highest grossing touring festivals in the world, with over 2 million fans in attendance and raising over $10 million dollars for national and local women's charities.

It sounds like a great show, I've been to two Lilith Fair festivals in the past and they were awesome! Sarah McLachlan is fabulous in person, a great performer and vocalist. I even got to meet her once, back in college I actually waited over four hours to get her signature. She was so sweet in person, and even though she was there much longer than she was originally planned, she didn't want to leave until every fan who came to meet her got to.

This year Sarah will be joined by: Colbie Caillat, Mary J. Blige, Sheryl Crow, Erykah Badu, Ke$ha, Norah Jones, Sugarland, Heart, Miranda Lambert, Beth Orton, Brandi Carlile, Cat Power, Chantel Kreviazuk, Corinne Bailey Rae, Emmylou Harris, Gossip, Indigo Girls, Ingrid Michaelson, Jill Scott, Loretta Lynn, Metric, Sara Bareilles, Tegan and Sara and more!

I think my favorite female vocalist is Martina McBride; I like her voice but I love the stories her songs tell even more.

Being Canadian, of course I love Sarah! I even liked her in the early indie days, pre Lilith and pre mainstream radio play! My favorite song is "Song for a Winters Night"--but its not written by her, its written by another famous Canadian....
"The lamp is burning low upon my table top
the snow is softly falling
The air is still within the silence of my room
I hear your voice softly calling
If I could only have you near
to breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
on this winter night with you"

I love the song "In the Arms of an Angel" or maybe it's just called "Angel." I always have liked it since I first heard it on the animal shelter ads.
