F is for Farm Field Trip: Follow Up Activities

Whenever I took my students on a field trip we prepared several days if not a few weeks beforehand and then had follow up lessons the next couple of days afterward. Since this was an official play group field trip I thought that would be a fun plan to follow at home too.

See Part 1: Activities At Home

We used our animal stamps to make a barn scene, and my intention was to only include animals we actually saw. Her intention was to have a good time with the giant ink pads, guess who won?We played Dairy-O, a game I made using clip art. I'll admit I resorted to showing ice cream in too many forms but I had trouble finding suitable one of cream cheese, cottage cheese, etc. This was to teach her about where our food comes from.I just love the book, Pigs in the Mud so even though we didn't see any pigs we did a book inspired project anyway. Because I wanted to and I do the planning☺ I first heard the story when my mentor teacher in CA came into my classroom and sang the book and played her guitar for my students. The kids loved it, and it must've made a big impression on me too cause I've loved it ever since, thanks Karen! ER painted a mud puddle. I had the brilliant idea of drawing a spot for her to try to stay in...when I am I going to learn! A lot of messy brown paint fun was had and those lines were painted right over! When it dried we added five little piggies clip art to the mud.

We also like the fun rhyming sheep book series by Nancy E. Shaw, Sheep in a Jeep being our favorite, and since ER did actually muster up the courage to go the smallest most harmless looking one of all we had to make a fuzzy cotton ball version. It's still a glue filled mess and weighs a ton so I will try to remember to add that picture to the post when it dries.

We'll have to take a look at the Pig in the mud book on our next library trip. I love the follow-up ideas.

It looked like she tried painting in the circle:) Heck, Adela would just make a big ole blob. She would keep painting on the same paper until she made a hole in it. Then she would get mad. Kids:)

BTW, I have an award for you on my blog:)
